So to add to our adventures that we have had... well there
is a lot, but most recent one was our trip down to Utah before going home for
spring break. I was put in charge of finding a ride for us so we wouldn’t have
to pay $50 to ride the shuttle. I found a ride that worked with both of our
schedules leaving Rexburg at 230 therefore we should get to salt lake around
630, right? Okay, that’s what we wished anyways. We are figured we
knew each other so we will just sit in the back and talk and the girls in the
front can become friends like whatev. So anyways, we are driving and we both
are starting to get car sick. We stop to get gas and we take a bathroom break,
just in time before I get too sick. We then get back on the road thinking
we are almost there yay. Well the girls vehicle decided that it needed a break
and wanted to be done so it just stopped. It would not accelerate anymore so we
told the girl she needed to pull over now so she finally gets to the edge of
the road and we sit there for a few minutes before taking a look at the engine.
We get out and pop the hood [remember this is 4 college girls (we know nothing
about cars!)] and as we stand on the side of the interstate in Utah we look at
the engine and say okay well something is wrong but I can’t tell ya what. We
stand there a little longer and finally decide it’s not the oil or power
steering and that’s all we could figure out. Kaylee calls her dad to try to
figure out what to do and I realized it was leaking something, but guess what
we still couldn’t tell ya what it was leaking. After a few phone calls to
people we figure out it is leaking transmission fluid and that now we will be
on the side of the road for a while cause that car has had it. At this point it
is 530 so I text my aunt and tell her it will be some time before I get there
because of car difficulties.
| Liz's feelings on being stuck on the side of the road |
My aunt was just oh so
thrilled to hear that. Now that we were sitting on the side of the road with
these two girls that we didn’t know we figured it was probably time to get to
know them somewhat because lets face it, what else were we going to do? I joked
that this was the only I was going to be able to make friends because I never
have time up at school to get out or do anything. We didn’t have too much of a view,
although we had a nice mountain on one side and on the other side up ahead of
us a little we could see cows chasing each other.
And we also heard and
felt each car pass us it was glorious… Kaylees parents who were from Lehi were
going to come rescue us and bring a dolly to tow the vehicle to salt lake for
the girl. So at this point all we could do was wait. We started talking for a
while and we also got to watch the sunset. That was pretty.
Then we are off to get food since remember this was supposed
to be just a 4 hour trip and we didn’t
think we would need to pack a dinner so
we were all starving. We get to an exit with food, but by this time it is 1102
as we pull into wendys they just closed there dining room and I guess it is
against policy to let anyone in after 11 and then wouldn’t let us walk through
drive thru so kaylee says well you lost our business and we walked away. We
then go to arbys same deal and try mcdonalds and yet again no such luck, but
then we ran back to arbys because a truck just finished drive thru and we told
them there is no way we can get that van towing the car through the drive thru
so they finally let us just order through the drive thru on our feet.
That was something
new. So we all ran back to look at the menu then ran back to the menu and her
dad decided to make the girl work and give us like 2 of every sauce. So now
that we have food we get back on the road we are driving and her dad begins 20
questions with each of us about our whole life story and parents and everything.
We finally make it to salt lake at 1230. Except liz was supposed to pick up her
grandmas car while her grandma was at the temple but since we thought we should
sit on the side of the road for a few hours she had to tell her grandma when
she was done at the temple that she needed to get her car and that we wouldn’t be
there till later so finally at 1230 and she has to get her grandma to meet us.
We get the girl to where she is going unload the car off the dolly. Oh and I forgot
to mention that she left the keys in her car with the window down and her
battery died and now her window is stuck down. We all joked and sat that now
that we have spent all day together and gotten to know each other pretty well
we need to get each others numbers and stay friends. Now that two of the girls
are dropped off me and kaylee finish the trip by finally making it to lehi at
130. Just to remind you in case you forgot we left Rexburg at 230 and it should
have only taken 4 hours not… well 11!
We know can start to laugh about it and whenever we pass that spot on the highway we just laugh. NEVER a dull moment when we travel together.
